Random Acts of Kindness in honor of Emily Keys!
MISSION STATEMENT FOR PROPSED NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION
“RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS”
We are requesting non-profit status to continue with a mission we have already begun to assist those in need in the rural/mountain communities of Colorado, working from Evergreen to Fairplay, and eventually including Hartsel and Woodland Park.
We have seen a profound need in the Park County area for suppliers for foodbanks to have extended suppliers and distributors. To this end, we have been working with a few friends to find suppliers and do some distribution. As I have done work similar to this in other fields, our small network has grown in just a few months to the distributions of up to 4000 pounds of food in a week. We have no refrigerated or shelf storage, or else we could and would be adding milk, meat, and additional produce to our program which as of now consists primarily of breads (including bagels, muffins etc.) and some small amounts of produce and canned goods. With additional shelf storage we would also be able to easily double or triple our access to canned goods, and dry goods (i.e. pastas, cereals and other essentials). It is our desire to be advocates for the people in need and help find additional resources and those that need them in these times of economic hardship.
We are currently working with Whole Foods, Sunshine Markets, King Soopers and Einstein Bagels, and with the granting of non-profit status will attempt to obtain grants for more and improved storage, including refrigerated storage, and find a centrally located distribution center for the food banks we are already servicing, plus a small food bank at the distribution center so that those in need in the immediate area do not have to use their own funds to get to one 30 or more miles away.
Long term, we would like to have several rural food bank distribution centers and cover the Hartsel, Lake George, Florrisant and Woodland Park areas. We also hope to open a computerized office for local and national job searches, have volunteers to help people improve their computer and other job skills, and an information center which will list all the programs available to skilled and unskilled workers looking for vocational training. We would like to establish an arm of this organization for assisting people with finance and credit problems, having classes on credit repair education, and how to make and stick to a budget with resources available.
In summary, we will be diligently searching for new grants and government programs that will help all of our community and set a community standard for all of rural Coloradans, and be there to assist them in setting up programs in communities all over the state.
We have had the pleasure of bringing Breads, pastries, rolls, buns, milk, produce and even now Frozen chickens to the mountains here in Colorado. We are serving from Bailey Colorado to Fairplay, and from Bunea Vista to Salida Colorado. It has grown since we started just 2 months ago.
